World Harmony Run
The World Harmony Run is a global relay that seeks to promote international friendship and understanding. As a symbol of harmony, runners carry a flaming torch, passing it from hand to hand whilst travelling through over 80 nations around the globe. The World Harmony Run does not seek to raise money or highlight any political cause, but simply strives to create goodwill among peoples of all nations.
Originally called the Peace Run, The World Harmony Run was founded by Sri Chinmoy in 1987. It is now an annual event with relay runs taking part in all different continents such as Africa, Europe, Americas, Asia and Australasia.
Sri Chinmoy founded the Harmony Run primarily to try and promote a feeling of oneness amongst different nations, races and cultures. In particular, Sri Chinmoy feels that sport can play a very important role in bringing people together.
In the past two decades, the World Harmony Run has touched the lives of countless people, who have been inspired by the simple message that the harmony run offers. The World Harmony Run has also visited many schools, giving young children the opportunity to participate and share in the hopes of creating a better future.
Sri Chinmoy is a firm believer that it is through individual effort and personal change that world harmony can become a reality here on earth.
"If you can create harmony in your own life,
This harmony will enter into the vast world."
